Since its beginning in January 2000, the TromaDance Film Festival has inspired filmmakers and film lovers from around the world to create their own truly independent festivals that support independent art. TromaDance is proud to lend its name to these festivals who are providing an outlet for local filmmakers to get their work seen.
Burning Paradise Presents: TromaDance New Mexico
Albuquerque, NM (USA) | Website
Tromadance New Mexico was founded by Kurly Tlapoyawa, owner of Burning Paradise Video and star of “The Stink Of Flesh.” Sick and tired of the paternalistic and elitist attitude being exhibited by the New Mexico State Film Office, Kurly decided that it was time for a film festival which truly supported the independent film makers of New Mexico. While the festival accepts submissions from all over the world, at least half of those chosen will always be from New Mexico.
TromaDance New Mexico made its debut on October 23, 2004. In its first year, TromaDance New Mexico recieved over 300 entries from the world over. In all, 11 feature films and 40 shorts were chosen to represent the finest in independnet film from New Mexico and elsewhere. TromaDance founder Lloyd Kaufman attends the screenings.
Submission Deadline: October 1, 2005
Next Festival: October 21 - 23, 2005
Tromapalooza III
Murfreesboro, TN & Las Vegas, NV (USA) | Website
Now in its third year, Tromapalooza is a way for people who love independent cinema to support the only film festival known to man, beast, or the MPAA that DOES NOT charge an entry fee for submitting a film. By the time most filmmakers have maxed out their credit card, and filmed commercials for the local Chrysler dealership to get their film made, the last thing they need is for some chardonnay sipper to gouge them for hundreds perhaps thousands of dollars just for the privilege of POTENTIALLY getting their film seen by an audience likely more interested in fine selection of Norwegian cheeses being served in the lobby. Here’s the rub, it may come as a shock to you, but… IT COSTS MONEY to put on a film festival. Tromadance does get some corporate sponsorship, but every year the survival of the festival depends on acquiring sponsors. We want to reduce that dependence and insure the survival of the festival.
Last Festival: October 7, 2005
